The 52nd Annual Winterfest Mixschpiel was a blast!
Organizers Brett and Angella have a special post-event message:
Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to say a massive thank you to everyone who came out to this year’s Winterfest Mixschpiel. Whether you curled, cheered, hosted, or helped out behind the scenes -this event was an absolute blast, and we couldn’t have pulled it off without you.
Together, we raised $8,060 for the Waterloo Hospice - a meaningful cause that is very near and dear to my heart. Thank you for making that happen.
Big congrats to all the bracket winners:

Also a well-deserved shoutout to Team Thomas for taking home the Flashing Broom - and to Russ, who brought the house down with a speech that earned a standing ovation (and probably should’ve come with a warning label for how hard we all laughed).
And while we’re on the topic of memorable moments - honourable mention to Don & Wilma Hunt's crew, who pulled off a full-blown takedown of Dean Froome (cigar and scotch were safe)… while wearing balaclavas.A few special thanks:
- To Melanie, for running draws, keeping scoring tight, and fielding all those last-minute questions.
- To our GM Michael, for showing up and showing his love for curling.
- To all of our sponsors, this event simply doesn’t happen without your support. You're the backbone of this bonspiel.
- And of course, to our home hosts, who opened their doors and made everyone feel like part of the Westmount family.
Looking ahead to next year - there will be a charity component again, so if you’re in a position to donate a prize, we’d love to hear from you.
Oh, and one last thing. Leanne and Ryan Bell are officially running Mixschpiel next year. Did they volunteer? Not exactly. Did we tell them beforehand? Also no. But we announced it publicly, so it’s legally binding and probably in a newsletter by now.
Ready or not - you're in the hack. You’ve got this. You’re going to crush it.
Wishing you all an incredible start to the new year keep an eye out for early registration come fall.
Cheers,
Angella & Brett
Save the Dates: Next year's event is booked for January 8-9, 2027.
