Sam Mooibroek
Curling Assistant & Instructor

Sam began curling at Westmount at age five in the Little Rock program, progressed through Juniors, and joined the Men’s League at 12.

A seven-time Ontario Champion and three-time National Champion, Sam’s career highlight was representing Ontario at the 2025 Brier.

A graduate of Algonquin College and Wilfrid Laurier University, Sam skipped Laurier to three OUA Championships and a U SPORTS National Championship.

Sam has coached Team Ontario at U18 and U20 National Championships, helping teams earn Silver and Bronze medals. He is excited to return to Westmount and work with the curling community.
Morgan Lavell
Curling Instructor

10 years competing on the World Curling Tour, with experience at Grand Slams, the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and the 2017 Roar of the Rings Olympic Trials.

Passionate about teaching and coaching, Morgan is the Head Coach of the University of Guelph Gryphons Women’s curling program and coaches Team Jayden King on the men’s tour, including at the 2025 Olympic Pre-Trials and 2026 Montana’s Brier.

An ACP Professional and NCCP Certified Competition Coach, Morgan is currently completing her Competition Development certification and holds a Master of Education from Athabasca University.

Morgan brings an enthusiasm for the sport to every lesson, creating an encouraging, curler-centred environment where players can build skills and confidence.
Melanie Hughes
Director of Curling

Certified as Club Coach and Club Coach – Youth, with a passion for introducing new curlers to the sport.

An ACP Professional in training with a strong background in curling instruction and club operations.

A lifelong curler with 20 years of experience in leadership roles at clubs with curling, including 10 years in General Manager roles and Ice Technician training.

Particularly passionate about teaching Learn to Curl and helping novice curlers build confidence and enjoy the game.
